Why Dr. Warm: Design, Testing and Quality Behind Every Product

Anyone can print a logo on a heated jacket. Far fewer companies can explain where the heating element came from, how it was tested, and what happens when a battery pack is dropped, overcharged or left in a cold car overnight. That gap is what this page is about: the design, testing and quality work that sits behind every product we sell, and why it matters when you are choosing what to put your own name on.

Building Heated Wearables Since 2013

Dr. Warm has been developing electrically heated products since 2013. That is more than a decade of working on a category that punishes shortcuts: heating elements that fail after twenty washes, controllers that drift out of calibration, battery packs that behave differently at −10 °C than they do on a test bench. None of those problems show up in a catalogue photo. They show up in the second season, which is exactly when a brand's reputation is on the line.

We stay in this category because we control the parts that matter. Heating elements, control systems and battery packs are developed by our own engineering team rather than bought in and assembled.

Why Dr. Warm: Design, Testing and Quality Behind Every Product 1

Design In-House: Elements, Control and Fit

Three heating element technologies are used across the range, and each has a place:

  • Carbon fiber — flexible, fast to warm, and comfortable against the body, which makes it our default for gloves, socks and insoles.
  • Alloy wire — extremely durable and predictable, well suited to garments that flex repeatedly at the shoulders and elbows.
  • Far-infrared — slower to build heat but gentler, a good match for therapy-oriented products such as waist supports and eye masks.

Heating zones are placed where they actually help: the back of the hand rather than the palm, the instep rather than the heel, the mid-back rather than the shoulders, where a jacket already traps warmth. Standard control runs three levels at approximately 38 °C, 45 °C and 55 °C, with waterproofing rated IPX4 as standard and IPX5 available on request. Where a product needs a specific behaviour — quick bursts of heat, an app-controlled curve, a manual button that works through a glove — that is an engineering decision, not an accessory added at the end.

Fit gets the same attention. A heated garment that is too bulky changes how the layer above it sits; a heated sock that is too thick alters how a ski boot performs. Design reviews always include how the product is worn, not only how it looks on a hanger.

Testing Before Anything Ships

Every product passes through our own laboratory before it reaches a customer. The tests are chosen around the failure modes that heated wearables actually have:

  • Battery aging and capacity checks, to confirm the pack still holds its charge after repeated cycles.
  • High and low temperature cycling, because cold is the condition these products are bought for.
  • Waterproof verification against the rated IP level, on the seam and the cable entry rather than just the fabric.
  • Thermal imaging, to confirm the element heats evenly and has no hot spot that could cause discomfort.
  • Cable and flex testing at the points where wires bend most, which is where most failures begin.

We also produce our own heating elements, so quality control starts at the raw material stage rather than at final assembly — an incoming batch that does not behave correctly never reaches the production line. Test records can be shared with clients on request.

Certifications and Standards We Work To

Our factory holds ISO 9001:2015 certification and has been audited on site. Our heated products are manufactured to meet CE, RoHS, FCC, TUV and UKCA requirements for the markets we serve, and battery packs are tested to UN 38.3 and certified to GB 47372-2026 and CCC.

Those last two deserve a note. China's GB 47372-2026 and CCC requirements for lithium battery packs are strict — in several respects stricter than the baseline tests applied in the EU and US. Because our products are engineered to that standard first, they clear overseas market requirements with room to spare rather than scraping through.

From Brand Idea to Shelf: OEM and ODM

A large part of what we do is behind someone else's label. Brands come to us with anything from a finished specification to a sketch on a whiteboard, and we develop the product: heating zones, power output, controller type, sizing, branding and packaging.

Two models are available. OEM means we manufacture to your design and apply your logo and packaging; orders start at 100 pairs. ODM means you build on our existing platforms with your own branding and specification; those projects start at 500 pairs per style. Samples are typically ready within 7–30 days depending on the level of customisation, and sample costs are credited against your production order. If you want to see how the manufacturing side works, our heated apparel factory pages cover the production lines and lab in detail.

What This Means When You Buy

Specifications that are stable and documented mean fewer surprises: the second production run behaves like the first, the spare battery fits, and the care instructions are based on a real element and a real pack rather than a generic template. Every product carries a 12-month warranty, and the same documentation that supports our own brand is available to the brands we manufacture for.

If you are buying for yourself, that shows up as a product that still works in year three. If you are buying for a brand, it shows up as a supplier who can answer a technical question with a document rather than an assurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Dr. Warm products different from unbranded heated clothing?

We develop the heating elements, control systems and battery packs in-house and test finished products in our own laboratory. That means specifications stay consistent between production runs, and faults are caught before shipment rather than after the season has started.

Do you manufacture for other brands?

Yes. Both OEM and ODM models are available: OEM orders start at 100 pairs, and ODM projects built on our existing platforms start at 500 pairs per style. Samples are normally ready within 7 to 30 days, depending on customisation.

How long is the warranty on Dr. Warm heated products?

Every product carries a 12-month warranty covering manufacturing defects. Battery packs are additionally tested to UN 38.3 and certified to GB 47372-2026 and CCC, and care instructions are supplied so the heating element and pack reach their expected service life.
